The Rail Trail

We're going for a walk today along the rail trail; come along with us!
First, let's inform ourselves about the rail trail.
It's 32km long, and is actually part of the larger Trans-Canada trail system.
What's nice about it is that it's flat. It's great for biking and cross country skiing; if you have snow that is. It follows rivers and some beautiful countryside.
It takes you through places you would never see by car. It cuts through farm properties that we see daily but only from the road.
Today we feel like we are walking through their backyards. I guess we are!
Some farms from behind are in tip top shape.

While others are a little  rough around the edges.
Admittingly, it's the rough ones that give us the most interesting sights.
We'll start just before the 19th km marker.
Let's do a little bird watching.
And some photography.
And some squirrel patrolling.
At first glance, everything appears to be brown.
Brown and white.
But on closer inspection, there are other colours to be seen.
Like red.

And gold.
And shades of aqua, on the horizon.
And a crystal clear blue sky.
Straight above our heads.

The twins are complaining that their legs hurt. Callie and I could go on forever.
How about you? Tired? Okay. We'll come back in the spring. Bring your bike!

If it was sunny in your neck of the woods today, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Be well friends,

I too love old farmhouses and barns. I would love to know their history and if they could talk the stories they might share from long long ago. A lovely walk with a beautiful family, thanks for sharing.

That looks like a wonderful place to return with your bikes in the spring! There was a place in Ohio I used to love to take my bike to, and ride the trails. It was great, and such a good workout.

Loved your pics, and I agree with you ... the rundown farms often are the most interesting to explore. And they make the best photo opps too! :)

Love the bright blue sky...even in winter, that's enough to cheer the heart. And yes...I agree with the above posts. I often wonder what the stories are from old homes...nice to hear from like-minded souls. Sending wishes for snow your way...we're expecting up to 8 more inches during the day tomorrow! Thanks for sharing your thoughts & photos.

Looks like a lovely day! We haven't been to that trail before, but I love stopping at the mail order wool and craft place in the area. We have tried others near Elmira and closer to our home.
