Hanky Panky

I discovered this polka dot plant seedling growing amid my Christmas cactus. I'm scratching my head over this, as I've never managed to keep a polka dot plant alive for any length of time and it's been more than a year since my last attempt to grow one. Is there such a thing as plant hanky panky?

Fear not (I know you were), I do have somewhat of a green thumb. I have an ivy plant that I started from a cutting when I was nine. The cutting came from my Brownie leader who was determined to see me obtain the requisite number of badges before I became a girl guide. And yes,  my plant is 35 years old, for those of you doing some quick math in your head.

While writing the date at work, I realized that today marked the twentieth anniversary since my paternal grandmother passed away. We were thick as thieves, she and I. She taught me more than she realized, lessons and anecdotes and so much love that I carry with me still and always will.

Last weekend, I made the brownie recipe that Nancy from A Rural Journal posted last week. It is now my go to brownie recipe. The Artist, who is by no means a chocolate fan, suggested I make it again. Soon. I think some homemade vanilla ice cream would make a nice side. Dessert should always have a side, wouldn't you agree?

I commented on how loud the spring peepers were tonight when I could hear them so clearly from inside the house. Turns out it was the septic alarm and Sergeant Artist has enforced a strict water ban until he determines the problem and rectifies such tomorrow. Hopefully. One part of country living that this former city slicker has not adjusted to....yet.

That is beautiful old plant good for your green thumb I am impressed.
Sorry about your Grandmother I understand that one, the memories last forever though and that is wonderful. Have a nice weekend I think it is going to warm up I certainly hope that is true. Hugs B

About the plant hanky panky -- I have found that if I put two African violets side-by-side in different pots, their blooms will begin to change color to the neighbor's blooms. Weird.

How nice that you had a close relationship with your Grandmother. I really didn't know any of my grandparents. xo

The peeper story is too good (sorry about the cause). I was close to my paternal granny, too -- so many lovely memories. Plant hanky panky is abundant ... I've been watching! :D :D

Plant hanky panky is good if it gives us more houseplants! :)
I have a pothos that I saved as a cutting when my hubby and I first got together. It was his late wife's plant and is pushing 40.

My green thumb died a couple of decades ago because I forgot to water it. Seriously... I am a plant killer.

Hope you find the septic problem ASAP! Oh those tricky noises...when we moved here I kept thinking I heard children laughing in the distance. Turns out it was the greyhound (dog) farm across the road. When I told my sister she said "I didn't know you lived by a bus station" lol

Love the spring peepers. They sing us to sleep nights in the spring and summer!

Yes. All desserts should have a side. It's a definite. I thought it had already been written into law or something...

Oh, my, sorry about the septic problem, and I hope it is something simple. That's one good thing about living in town--town water and sewer! I do miss the country quiet, though . . .

I have a mid-green thumb. I can keep some plants alive. But I don't have any indoors now because one of our kitties likes to eat them. Hoping to get my hands in the dirt for some outdoor plants next month. :-)

Septic problems?! Blah! Adjusting to country living is fun, but hard as well. Best of luck with this issue!

35 years old that is super impressive! And Nancy's Brownie recipe has replaced my tried and true, homemade ice cream is a super idea...I once knew septic tank woe, good luck with that.

I'm impressed with the keeping alive plant for 35 years . . . with that accomplishment who knows what other Hanky Panky kind of things might be possible . . .

I too will go back to check on the Brownie recipe. Right now, . . . mine is the winner.

Fun post Andrea . . .
