Where the wild things grow

If you'd told me I would learn more about weeds than flowers or vegetables during my first five years of country life, it's more than likely I would have scoffed...loudly. I might have even rolled my eyes. But here I am, on the cusp of our fifth anniversary in this place and I'm completely digging the fact that each time I read about a wild edible or herb for medicinal purposes, that I say to myself, "Hey! That's growing in our yard." Sometimes there is a lot of it around and often times, just a sampling, but I also know that there is a treasure trove beyond the wild violets I harvested this spring in the seemingly, but not really, far woods behind us.

Where do the wild things grow you ask? Why, all around us.

It's amazing how much we take for granted, and discard in the name of landscaping! Lovely post. :)

I have a greater appreciation for weeds as a photographer than I ever had before. There really is a lot of beauty in them.

oh my girls go nuts over those pods! In the fall we go to the forest preserve to "collect" the pods to break them all open and create the BIGGEST mess in the world!

I have green thumb in weeding growing. I'm an expert. I can kill any flower and grow weeds like an expert, lol. Great post. Thanks for sharing at our Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop.

Great post. I was just out last evening looking for plants to photograph (more specifically, flowers - wild or otherwise) and a little boy asked me what I was doing. I explained to him that I was on an adventure to find all the cool and pretty weeds in our neighborhood and then photograph them. The "adventure" had him smiling widely. His little sister, on the other hand, suggested I look into a hole for perhaps spider webs as an adventure. Gotta love kids. Love nature.
