Another set of Twins

Each day, as I head to work in the city,

I pass a farm with these two lovelies.
I took this photo, last winter, on my way home.

So lost was I, in the gaze of the horse in the foreground,
that I completely missed an obviously bulging belly belonging to the mare behind him.

Three months later, I was reading an article in one of the local gazettes about a rare pair of Clydesdale-Hackney twins that had just been born. It wasn't until near the end of the article which detailed the farm's location that I realized these were the same horses that greet me twice each workday.

You can still read one online version here.

I keep an eye out for them every day, and can usually find one on each side of mom.

Then this fall, there was a sign; farm raised chickens for sale. The Artist and I, eager to try a local supplier of farm fresh chickens, headed out early one Saturday morning. Once the chicken exchange was complete, we headed over to the barn to meet Lucky and Charm.

Lucky wasn't the least bit shy and headed over to meet us lickety-split.

 What a handsome boy.

I tried to imagine how big my dear sweet Andalucia, who is five months and a day older, was in comparison to these two.

The horses were named by the farmer's grandchildren. After reading how rare it is for a mare to carry twins to term, how fortunate they were to go undetected as two foals, and, as you can see from these photos, just how sweetly beautiful they are, I think you'd agree, Lucky and Charm are the perfect names for these twins.

~Be well friends~

They are so cute! What a sweet treat to be able to see them as you drive by. My FIL had Percherons and now has Clydes. So big but so pretty.

It is such a small world, isn't it? We are all connected in some way -- that's my thought anyway.

This is a lovely post, Andrea. I really enjoyed it. :)

They're beautiful Andrea! And the names Lucky and Charm are too cute.

What a great story for all of us. It's funny how so often we see something every day and don't know the story behind it...

Thanks for sharing,
Chris

Andrea, what a wonderful post. These babies are GORGEOUS. I agree, the names are absolutely perfect. They are so big--I can’t imagine how big they will be full grown. Keep us posted. The scenery there is beautiful too :)

Beautiful! I would love to have some horses, as would my daughter, but my stick in the mud husband, doesn't think we need them. He wants cows instead. Cows are boring...am I right? Horses would go great with our chickens, pigs, and sheep!

What a great view you have every morn. Just don't drive off the side of the road!

Aren't they just the most precious pair?! I don't know much about horse breeding but that seems like an unusual cross to me. I'm going to read the article. Hope you had a wonderful holiday!

Great story! We too had twins survive nearly three years ago. Ours were 1/4 Clyde, 3/4 Thoroughbred. Just wish my kids were as good at naming... My daughter (then 4) named one Treetrunk(!?) as that's what she called the blaze down her face. We now call that filly "Trista." The other was named Rosebud because that's what Sarah thought the foal "acne" was! ;-0 I keep meaning to blog about them sometime, but as usual can barely keep up with current events!
Wishing you a very Happy New Year!
hugs,
Leslie
