I came home last Thursday to the smell of diesel fuel in the house. Someone left the back door open as they tried to get the generator running, which by the way sounds like you're having a carnival in your backyard, but in this case the ride was broken. The ride? Our windmill. Down for the count. We get some strong winds around the old farmhouse, especially with the open land to the west but with they hydro out and the windmill down, either a strong micro-cell or mini tornado passed by. A windmill, by the way, which is set in concrete and attached to six to eight foot long rods. Not a ride for the faint of heart. But if that's the tail end of what had been a crazy twenty four hour tornado season to the south of us, well, I'm thanking my lucky stars that all we have is another chore to add to the list.

Wow-thats crazy. I often complain about our cold weather, but i cant imagine that type of wind. Glad you werent hurt!
Oh.... so sorry to see your windmill down. But your photo is great! (I still need some serious photography lessons). Hope it's up and running again soon!

Wow, there has been some crazy weather lately. I feel extremely lucky that all I experienced was a partially flooded basement. My heart does go out to everyone who has experienced destruction and loss.

Andrea I am so sorry it has been scary weather and unexpected things are happening. I love that windmill but yes we are lucky and I pray for the ones who have more to deal with. I really do not like the smell of diesel that is too bad. B
Scary winds that far north, eh? Wow. I hope your windmill will be fine again. I do appreciate how you put it into perspective with what's happened to so many others already this year. But I'm still sorry you had some damage!
Looking on the bright side -- at least the blades weren't damaged. It looks like it fared the storm pretty well.
