The Ember Report

It's been two weeks since Ember came to live with us and things are going well. I guess. Kinda. Sorta. Okay, all things considered, we really can't complain. She loves to strut her stuff on the cat walk. I'm considering being one of those moms and getting her an agent. She's picture perfect! I told you I was one of those moms.

She's met some of the family and was the perfect hostess, oozing charm and social skills worthy of the First Feline of the Yellow Farmhouse. She was so hospitable to our guests I had to do a coat check as they went out the door, just to make sure she wasn't tucked in one of their sleeves. You can never be too careful with gushing family and a cute kitten.

She knows how to get into everything. This is not an understatement. I've had no internet connection to my laptop in another part of the house all week because some redhead learned how to disconnect it. She's also quite clever, learning on the fly that ladder back chairs are actually ladders disguised as chairs to get you access to the coveted table. And it must be coveted because those humans are sitting around it all the time.

She enjoys good quality snuggle time, brief as it may be at times. Personally, I think she's practicing coyness to one day charm the pants off the coop vermin before she goes in for the attack. And I think at this very moment she is practicing her attack skills on my big toe which apparently makes a good substitute for a field mouse.

And she recognizes the importance of proper rest and a well balanced diet; she even sleeps through the night. Please, please tell me that will never change or forever hold your peace. And with everything going rather swimmingly around here, I thought I would take a chance and show her the blog. I'm really not sure how I should take her reaction.

I'd like to think she's laughing with me but I can't bury my head in the sand; although come to think of it that might not be a bad idea. You see, this little kitty has one big problem. She's young, inexperienced in the ways of the world, and lacks an understanding of a few lady like traits. How can I put this delicately? She has, a certain emissions problem. A very malodorous emissions problem. And for a little girl she packs a mighty wallop. I'm pretty sure that she's laughing at me.

And yes she does know how to strut her stuff!

I am a little jealous of your sweet orange kitty.....we have two, and I like collecting the orange ones the best. ps we also have a black and white...but my faves are the orange ones.

What a character!! It's all in her face, and she is quite adorable. I think an agent would be a good idea. And what is it about cute little things and their emission problems!! Nature has a way of keeping all of us on an equal playing field, yes?

I have to agree you have a very photogenic kitty in Ember. Is there any way you can prevent her from actually growing? ;)

What a cute little girl, and I'm not even a cat person. Someone has dropped off 4 big cats in our neighborhood, if you want more come on down!

ADORABLENESS on 4 paws! What a pretty face and perfectly expressive eyes. I think she'll be fine with the expression problem - probably just the kitten chow she's eating now...

To answer the ? about orange cats being male~
**** Most, but certainly not all, orange tabby cats are male. It’s about 80/20 male to female. We have many female orange tabbies in my practice. There is no monetary value, per se, associated with a female orange tabby cat. Calico and tortoiseshell cats, however, are almost always female.

Here’s how it works. To have black and orange in the same cat, you need two X chromosomes. Two X chromosomes mean the cat will be female. Male cats need a Y chromosome and are XY.

Occasionally a mutation will arise during embryonic development and a kitten will be born with an extra chromosome: XXY. The two Xs allow for it to be black and orange. The Y makes it a male. This is how you get a tortoiseshell or a calico male cat. They’re uncommon (one out of 3000 are male), but don’t get your hopes up about breeding them for money. As a result of this mutation, most of them are sterile.****

Ember is adorable! I just wanna snuggle and smooch her. And yes, they know how to entertain themselves!!

Are you using litter like Fresh Step clumping litter and an enclosed kitty box? That makes all the diff! But, kittens have "deposits" that do get better as they get older! Don't worry!

Now I have to keep myself from asking God for another kitten to be sent this way....Oy, that's rough!

I can see that Ember is a very sweet kitten. You were wise to make sure none of your relatives took Ember home... even by accident. :)

Andrea, that really is one adorable kitten. Love the shot lounging with family....

How cute and what a face in the last shot. Don't give her milk that will cause the smelly problem.

Ember is definitely Cute Overload! I adore her!!!! Your right to check that no one abducts her when they leave.
My mom's cat (a stray she recently took in that will be spayed) has kittens right now and they are so darling. How can you not love a kitten? It's when they grow up into cats and wake you up at 5 am to eat that becomes rather irritating. LOL!

She certainly does look like she could use an agent-quite the lovely model!

So cute. We just got a new kitten. Our old cat died back in September and it's taken us a bit of time to get back on the pet bandwagon.

I like this post. Great photos!

I think that Ember needs to write a post every now and then to tell her side of the story.
You do a great job of capturing her antics and expressions.

As for her "issue," as suggested, do not give her milk. Cats are not made for cows milk anyway. Also, avoid fish flavored canned food. Either use dry kibble or chicken based canned food. It will help.

Holy cuteness! :-)
We have kittens find their way to our house every year it seems. We are up to 3 cats right now. NO MORE. But when they are so small and cute, it's hard NOT to give them the comforts of a home and alot of love.

Great blog!
