Paris to Ancaster

Eli and I have been sitting on the front porch of the old farmhouse as cyclists participating in the Paris to Ancaster bike race whiz by. It's the first time their route has taken them by our place and we're enjoying the chance to watch someone else work for a change.

We're also pretty sure they are mostly city folk. The majority of them barely noticed as chickens scratched and pecked in the ditch a few feet to the right of their bikes. There were some, however, who did take notice, like one couple who rode by. The girl screeched and the guy yelled out, "Oh my god, I thought they were dogs!"
Eli looked at me, I looked at Callie and we all turned and looked
at the couple  as they rode off into the misty distance.

And to be honest, I'm not sure who was more insulted the chicken or the dog.

~Be well friends!~

I used to bicycle a lot. Never mistook a chicken for a dog.
That said, your second shot has glorious, vibrant color!

Chickens or dogs? Hmmmm...feathers vs. fur. I don't get the confusion.

I usually have people who confuse my geese for ducks and already confused our goats for sheep--don't ask me how on either count.

We are too far removed, as a society, from our roots. How many of our ancestors would have made such a mistake?

I do see the dog. Did either chase the bikers?

Hey I'm going to be in your neck of the woods (kind of)next week. I'm going to St. Jacobs on business.

Love the perspective in the first photo, and the colors of that dog in the second photo are incredible! (ha ha)

I think you are right about most of the cyclists being city folk. We have a bike race here in our small town every year. People come from all over the place. Which amazes me. The ones that are friendly enough to stop and chat always marvel at the wholesomeness of our small town and people. We just sit and watch and smile. They can be quite amusing. What a gorgeous rooster Eli is!

Your place must be really close to the road -- does the traffic ever spook your chickens?

Love the photo -- don't see these two things together very often! :)
