5 on 13

I read mostly non-fiction but usually switch to fiction during the summer months. A good story was meant to be enjoyed out of doors, while in a hammock swaying in a gentle breeze. This year I read more than I normally do and on the advice of my fellow bookworm, pictured above, I began reading the Lorien Legacies. We've just started the third book, he reads on the bus, I read it at night, and I was surprised how much I am enjoying it, but I think it's sharing books with him, that makes it even more of a joy.

Our windstorm damage threw us a wild curve ball this summer, and I've been remiss in thanking Staci from Life at Cobble Hill Farm. She held a giveaway and yours truly won some of her handmade lip balm. I'm loving the Sweet Mint! If you don't know Staci, she's a talented homesteader with informative posts and a great eye for photography. Stop on by!

I never really developed an interest in Pink Floyd; I attribute it to my parent's 70's music repertoire, which was heavy on The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac, but Learning to Fly has been stuck in my head for weeks. I had it on repeat while writing this post. I'm hoping it will cure what ails me, but if if it doesn't, c'est la vie.

Tomorrow, I'm headed to a Writing Festival to listen to the Michael Pollan speak. He wrote this book and is featured in this movie. It's not often someone of his caliber supporting the local food movement is in my neck of the woods and I am more than a bit excited.

I was born on the 13th day of the month so unlike most people, I don't fret over the possibility of misfortune on Friday the thirteenth cause it's my lucky number!

~Happy Friday the 13th Friends!

Friday the 13th has always been a lucky one for me, too. My friend told me it's because in Mexico, 13 is considered lucky (and I'm Mexican). :) Very cool about sharing the books, and going to see that author. Enjoy!

the 13th is my husband's favourite day and number, I don't really think about it. It is very cool how you and your son are reading the same series, the photo is outstanding.
