Saturday Happenings

Not much happening around the old farm house today.

The boys are playing a pick up game of hockey.

Well, some of the boys.

The girl twin is attending an early celebration of the Chinese New Year.
In case you didn't know, 2010 is the year of the Tiger.

Speaking of tigers, Whiskers, is begging for an early dinner.
But she's also tossed her cookies three times today.
Yes, she's pawing vigorously at her kibble bag to get my attention.

Speaking of cookies, I'm baking in the old farm house kitchen.

Chocolate chip cookies...what else?
While we wait for them to finish baking, wanna see what I've been doing lately?
I've discovered thrifting.
Why it took me forty years to discover this phenomenon is beyond me.
I'm just thankful it was forty and not eighty.
There is a Goodwill store around the corner from my office.
Rather than eating out on Fridays, I brown bag it and go there instead.

The Julia Child 'The French Chef Cookbook' is a 1968 printing with illustrations and photos by Paul Child. I think that's cool.

The old jars are made by Crown Canada, a blue pint jar and a large quart jar from 1931, before Canada switched to the metric system and entirely confused my generation. I had never seen blue jars before this one and I'll be keeping my eyes open for more like it.

I haven't decided what I'll do with the bread tin, I may just use it as a flower container this summer. I hope I find more, they're tres cher to buy new.

The cookies are ready now, anyone got

?

Be well friends, happy Saturday night!

Ohhh! Enamel ware bread tin. And Julia Child. Very cool! But I just confess, my thrifting days are over. I just took a bunch of stuff to the church for a Rummage Sale. I think I've entered the stage of "Downsizing".

What terrific finds! Good for you. I love a great bargain, and I know your twin will really love the basket painted white. I'm trying not to buy anything new until I retire in two years. I don't want to have to move anything more than necessary.

Sounds like a perfect day - well, except for Whiskers tossing her cookies. That seems to happen with cats on a fairly regular basis. Great buys!! -Tammy

Love the pictures you share of the skating, grew up on a lake skating all day and all night. Raised our girls on a lake, skating all day and all night. When we bought this land one of the first things we did was to dig for a farm pond, to be able to skate. Well it never held any amount of water, so now we need to dig another and fill the hole. Love your finds. I have all of Julia's cookbooks and books, have had them for years and read from cover to cover many times. I went to by some of those canning jars with the galvanized lids, They wanted $6. a piece for them. YOU GOT A GREAT DEAL!
Great finds!

Oh my goodness Andrea! The blue Crown Canada canning jars were all my Mom used right up until she passed in 1996. She had a canning cupboard full of them! Lord only knows where they are now. :( But hey! Maybe you just bought a couple of them! :)

I'll be giving your stalker some more dryer lint tomorrow for your firestarters!

What fantastic finds! Love the egg basket! My best find lately was some yarn - some for knitting and some for weaving (less than $5 total); along with a barely used copy of "More Food that really Schmecks" by Edna Staebler (K-W cookbook author who passed away not too long ago at age 100)for $1.
